Abattoir wastewater system
Anaerobic, aerobic and finishing pond system (7 in total)
Challenge:
1. 600mm scum layer of FOG (Fats, Oils and Grease) on anaerobic pond
2. Anaerobic pond required desludging- mechanical desludging was cost prohibitive
3. Sludge causing low hydraulic load- EPA required increase
4. Poor water quality
5. Poor treatment efficiency
Results:
Anaerobic pond no longer required mechanical desludging
Surface scum reduced to 5-10mm and surface became ‘healthy again’
Aerobic pond had less sludge
All ponds operating clearer
Odour reduction noticeable in ponds and recycled water
